Schools

We cooperate with the local government of Nepal to improve rural schools in the most vulnerable communities. Therefore, we carry out educational, awareness, development and health and hygiene programs in different schools and areas in the Gorkha district for the defense of human rights, placing special emphasis on the defense of children's rights.

SHREE THUMKA PRIMARY SCHOOL

Around 80 students study at this school. It is located in the Bhumlichok area, within the Gorkha district. To get to the school from Kathmandu you have to take the Tribhuvan Highway, one of the main roads in Nepal, for about three hours to reach Fishling. Once we arrive at this town we must cross a suspension bridge and begin the ascent up the mountain. Little by little, we leave the river under our feet and enter a path that brings us closer to the clouds. We see the vegetation take on a greener tone and any car reduced to the size of an ant. As we approach the school we begin to see the difficult living conditions in which the Chepang communities live but also the simplicity and joy that these mountains and the people who live in them transmit.

SHREE JIVAN JYOTI PRIMARY SCHOOL

Shree Jivan Jyoti is a school located in Gorkha district, specifically in the Makaising development committee. This school is for primary education and has around 50 students (between nursery school and Class 5). The students of these schools come from different indigenous communities (mostly Chepang, Lama and Gurung). At this school, educational and nourishment programs are being developed since 2022, after the planting of the third Rooftop Garden, which is already providing a nutritious daily meal to all its students. In addition, from Bahadur we have collaborated in the installation of a pipeline to provide running water to the school students.

SHREE BHALAYADADA PRIMARY SCHOOL

Bhalayadada is a primary school, located in Tanglichok (Gorkha, Nepal). It is made up of around 90 students between 2 and 12 years old. All of them come from the Chepang community, one of the most vulnerable indigenous groups in the country. Access to the school is both remote and striking. To get there you have to take a bus for about 5 hours and then walk a couple more hours up the mountain. It is probably one of the most remote areas we have visited so far, due to its lack of basic facilities such as electricity or roads. From here you can see the views of the Himalayas: Manaslu, Annapurna or Mardi Himal.

SHREE BALAKI SECONDARY SCHOOL

Shree Balaki Secondary School is a rural school in Bhumlichok development committee of Gorkha district. This school is made up of 232 students (between nursery school and Class 8). Students from different vulnerable indigenous communities (Chepang, Gurung, Lama, Newar, Magar, etc.) attend this school. In this school, 3 women's empowerment groups have been created, with monthly sessions for all its members. Additionally, menstrual hygiene kits and reusable pads have been distributed to every girl at school.

SHREE BIJAYA BHAWANI SECONDARY SCHOOL

This school is made up of 263 students (between nursery school and Class 12). Students from different vulnerable communities (mostly Chepang, Gurung, Lama and Magar) attend this school.
